Slovakia announced deplorable state of the country’s army after aid to Ukraine
Slovak former PM Robert Fico said that the Slovak army is in a deplorable state after transferring military equipment to Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports
Robert Fico said that after Slovakia sent equipment to Ukraine, the country’s army is in a deplorable state. According to him, there are no military aircraft or air defence systems in Slovakia, and there is not enough ammunition.
“This was also done in order to prepare for unnecessary arms purchases into the country today. We will stop many of them. Historical as well as personal experience forces me to be restrained in statements about whether I believe the thesis that we will be protected by allies,” he said.
Fico noted that if his party wins the parliamentary elections, military assistance to Ukraine will be stopped because, according to him, this only leads to the death of people.
In April 2022, Slovakia transferred the S-300 air defence system to Ukraine. In April 2023, the Slovak side also completed the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. Fico criticised the authorities for transferring a fully functioning S-300 air defence system to Ukraine, stating that it is completely unclear how Slovakia will resolve the issue of air defence in the coming years.
