Shoigu: Russia strengthening its western borders, expecting deliveries of F-16s to Ukraine in 2024
Russia is strengthening its western borders in response to arms sales to Ukraine, including the possible transfer of F-16 fighter jets – as noted by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, RIA Novosti reports
The Russian Minister noted that Kiev receives armoured vehicles, air defence systems, and high-precision missiles from its allies. Moreover, the US included cluster munitions in military aid packages, ignoring international conventions.
“The issue of transferring F-16 tactical fighters to Kiev has moved to a practical level. Their arrival is expected next year. In response to these threats, we are taking appropriate measures and strengthening our western borders,” Shoigu said.
He drew attention to the fact that NATO member states don’t only transfer weapons and intelligence information to the Ukrainian troops, but they also conduct training for Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers and send mercenaries and consultants to Ukraine.
According to the Head of the Russian Defence Ministry, defending the Kiev regime, ‘the collective West unleashed a hybrid war against Russia in the military-political, legal, economic and humanitarian spheres’.
