Sergeyenko: we’ve always adhered to One China principle, and this line will remain unchanged
Belarus-China all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership enables us to look to the future and develop trade-economic, humanitarian and cultural relations – as stated by Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko during today’s meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong, who is completing a diplomatic mission in our country
The Speaker of the House of Representatives noted that he knows the diplomat as a great friend of our country, “Over the years of your work, you have been able to immerse yourself in all the current problems of the Belarusian-Chinese relations, in all the projects. You have contributed to their implementation in our country. Almost four years is a considerable period of time. I think your stay in Belarus has left you with vivid impressions for the rest of your life. You are an experienced diplomat with extensive practical experience of a diplomatic career in different regions of Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. You know the Slavic traditions very well. You speak excellent Russian. During this seemingly short period of time (by the standards of human life) you have done a lot; moreover, many bright events occur during your cadence in Belarus. Of course, a landmark event in the development of our relations was a joint declaration on the establishment of the highest level of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership in the history of Belarus-China relations, adopted in September 2022 on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand.”
According to Igor Sergeyenko, Xie Xiaoyong contributed to making this happen.
“It is thanks to our leaders – President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of China Xi Jinping – that a regular systematic exchange of delegations at the highest level has been established, and concrete work is being carried out. We are grateful to the Chinese side and to you personally for your support in organising the official visit of Premier of China’s State Council Li Qiang, which took place just this month and resulted in the signing of a large package of agreements and arrangements in the economic sphere. Of course, the key is the intergovernmental agreement on trade in services and investment, which envisages the creation of a free trade zone between our countries. This is a further step on the path of our primarily economic co-operation,” Igor Sergeyenko stressed.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives also noted the diplomat’s personal participation in the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue between the countries, particularly, the preparation of the visit of the National Assembly delegation to China, “I’m convinced that multifaceted interaction will be strengthened along the parliamentary line, at the level of the High-level Committee on Co-operation between the legislative bodies of our countries. We traditionally liaise within the framework of international organisations. At the same time, external pressure that undermines stability and sustainable development is unacceptable. We have always adhered to the One China principle, and this line will, of course, remain unchanged. In the future, we also count on China’s support on international platforms in our position. We are grateful for the comprehensive support for Belarus’ admission to the SCO as a full member, as well as the promotion of the Belarusian application for the status of a BRICS partner state.”
Igor Sergeyenko stressed, “We will make every effort to develop Belarusian-Chinese co-operation at all levels and in all directions. I’m sure that no matter how your career develops, it will also contribute to the further development of our relationships.”
