Sergeyenko: Belarus is forming a generation of people who appreciate and understand their history
The Republican Council for Historical Policy has met today at the National Academy of Sciences – led by the Head of the Belarus’ President Administration, Igor Sergeyenko
Speaking of the issues under consideration, Mr. Sergeyenko commented, “These include the issues of school historical education. Probably, one of the main tasks is that the teaching of history should have two functions: educational and disciplinary. By studying certain stages of our past, getting acquainted and delving deeply, we are forming a generation of people who appreciate, understand and know our history: patriots of their own state. A system has been built in this direction: for example, we have already considered the issue of teaching the history of Belarusian statehood in universities. Relevant textbooks have been prepared, and a group of enthusiastic scientists is working in this field. We will be informed today on how teaching is going on, and how students perceive it.”
“We also focus our attention on such issues as functioning of museums, preservation of monuments and memorials, and some other aspects related to research activities, the History Institute’s work, dissertation and university studies. The Republican Council for Historical Policy decisions are implemented in specific activities and in specific areas,” the Head of the President Administration added.
