Scientists warn of dangerous consequences of a popular sweetener
Researchers from the US, Germany, the Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia have found that a popular sugar substitute, erythritol, can increase the risk for a stroke, heart attack and thrombosis, Lenta.ru reports
Scientists have been observing changes in the health of 4,000 participants of the experiment for several years: people consumed high doses of polyol sweetener in food and drinks every day. After studying the statistical data, it turned out that excessive doses of erythritol in food increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases in the long term by up to 80 percent. Two more experiments then followed, and they also confirmed the results.
This effect is explained by a rapid accumulation of erythritol molecules in the body, which leads to the likelihood of blood clots.
