S. Korea established AI research centre for military use
Yonhap News Agency reported that the South Korean Defence Ministry opened a research centre to study the possibilities of promising applications of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the defence sector, TASS reports
It is noted that the centre will study ways to manage various units and assess the situation on the battlefield using AI. According to the agency, the centre's work is aimed at optimising the staff of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces and introducing high technologies into the country's defence sector.
The agency stated that the opening ceremony of the centre was attended by Defence Minister Shin Won-sik and Science Minister Lee Jong-ho. The heads of departments signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening co-operation in semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, and cyber technology.
