Russian FM compared US to Orwell’s Animal Farm, noting that it demands unquestioning obedience from its allies

The United States of America demands unquestioning obedience from its allies, even to the detriment of their national interests – as stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who chairs the UN Security Council meeting, TASS reports

During the ministerial debate on multilateral co-operation in the interests of a more just, democratic and sustainable world order, Mr. Lavrov noted, “Let’s be honest: not all the states represented in this room recognise the key principle of the UN Charter: the sovereign equality of all states. The United States has long, through the words of its presidents, declared its own exceptionalism. This also ties to Washington’s attitude toward its allies, from whom it demands unquestioning obedience, even to the detriment of their national interests.”

The Russian Foreign Minister added that the most important components of international law – the UN Charter and the Security Council decisions – are interpreted by the collective West in a ‘perverse and selective manner, depending on the directives coming from the White House.

“And many Security Council resolutions are completely ignored, including resolution 2202, which approved the Minsk Agreements on Ukraine; resolution 1031, which approved the Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the basis of the principle of equality of the three constituent peoples and two entities,” the Russian top diplomat added. “In the last century, George Orwell in his Animal Farm has already foreseen the essence of the ‘rule-based order’: ‘all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others’. If you fulfil and obey the will of the hegemon, you’re permitted to do anything you wish. But if you dare defend your national interests, you will be declared an outcast and sanctioned.”
