Russia provided evidence of staged nature of Bucha provocation
The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, has provided evidence that the events in Ukrainian Bucha were staged to act as a provocation, RIA Novosti reports
On April 3rd, the Ukrainian authorities demonstrated photos featuring the bodies of civilians killed allegedly by the Russian military in the city of Bucha. President Zelenskyy said that was a genocide.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN recalled that, on March 30th, the Russian Defence Ministry announced the Russian military withdrawal from several regions, including Bucha, and the fact was confirmed personally by the Mayor of Bucha on March 31st. “In his video message, Mayor Anatoly Fedoruk did not mention any mass atrocities, bodies of those killed, murders or anything like that,” Mr. Nebenzia said.
The diplomat doubted that the city head could forget to mention a fact of the kind. In his video message, Mr. Fedoruk is smiling and looks happy. “It is hard to imagine that he behaves like this against the background of the carnage on the streets,” the Russian diplomat noted.
Mr. Nebenzia also showed a photo of Ukrainian athlete Zhan Beleniuk who arrived in Bucha immediately after the Ukrainian military entered the city. In the photo, the sportsman is also smiling, with no comments of what happened.
Another video demonstrated by Mr. Nebenzia was the one shot by the National Guard of Ukraine on April 2nd in Bucha: the footage features no bodies on the streets anywhere.
The diplomat noted that the video featuring the bodies along the roads became available only on April 3rd. “It is full of inconsistencies and outright lies. The truth about the provocation in Bucha will soon become known," he stressed.
Mr. Nebenzia did not rule out that the provocation was aimed at intimidation.
