Royal family of Japan debuted on Instagram
Many posts of the royal family of Japan appeared on Instagram for the first time on April 1st, hoping to rid of their ‘reclusive image’ and reach out to young people on social networks, The Associated Press reports
The Imperial Household Agency, which is responsible for the family's affairs, posted 60 photos and five videos on Instagram, showing public appearances by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako over the past three months.
"The agency said they wanted the public to have a better understanding of the family’s official duties and that Instagram was chosen because of its popularity among youth. By Monday evening [April 1st], their verified account Kunaicho_jp had more than 270,000 followers,” the publication reads.
The first published photo features the imperial couple sitting on a sofa with their 22-year-old daughter, Princess Aiko, during the New Year celebrations. Other postings show meetings with foreign dignitaries, including the Crown Prince of Brunei and his wife.
