Refugee beaten by Latvian security forces: I cried in pain, asking not to kill me

On the afternoon of July 14th, border guards found an Afghan citizen on the Belarusian-Latvian border. During the interrogation, the foreigner said that despite pleading for help, the Latvian military brutally beat him unconscious, sb.by reports with reference to the Telegram channel of Belarus’ Investigative Committee.

The victim was given first aid and taken to a health facility. Despite the injuries, the man managed to survive.

“I cried in pain and asked them for only one thing: not to kill me. However, they continued to deliver punches, kicks and batons, as well as to use a stun gun. After that, they threw me out on the territory of Belarus,” the Afghan said.

The crime was documented by an investigator of the Braslav District Department of the Investigative Committee.

“To date, fifty-two foreigners have suffered at the hands of Latvian mercenaries in uniform, twenty-one did not survive,” the Investigative Committee noted.
