About 4,000 people took part in a protest march in Berlin against arms supplies to Ukraine, for the resignation of the government and early elections in the country – according to the data provided by the press service of the police of the German capital, RIA Novosti reports
In particular, law enforcement officers reported, “According to preliminary estimates, approximately 4,000 people took part in the protest march.”
350 people came out against the protest action, but did not interfere with the progress of the march. Law enforcement officers clarified that at the time the procession passed through the city, only a few verbal altercations occurred. Approximately 230 police officers were involved in policing various events throughout Berlin.
The march, which started from the square in front of the Berlin Cathedral, was announced by activists close to the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and the Querdenker movement, which had previously opposed government measures to combat coronavirus infection.
The marchers were advocating for the re-election of a government that they believe has made mistakes in energy policy and carried out inappropriate measures to combat COVID-19. Moreover, demonstrators demand to stop helping Ukraine and called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict and the resumption of friendly relations with Russia.
