Rachkov: terrorist acts have recently been carried out with other countries’ tacit support

Counter-terrorism readiness has always been in the focus of attention of the country’s leadership due to the growing terrorist threat that exists throughout the world – as stated by Sergei Rachkov, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, commenting on the President’s meeting to discuss the results of the inspection of the country’s security bloc

“International organisations, which include the Republic of Belarus, are seriously dealing with this issue,” Sergei Rachkov underlined. “Our country has repeatedly raised issues of international security at various venues.”

In 2018, our country hosted a high-level international conference under the auspices of the OSCE – Preventing and Countering Terrorism in the Digital Age. In 2019, Minsk was the venue for the international conference of Belarus and the UN, entitled Combating Terrorism through Innovative Approaches and the Use of New and Emerging Technologies.

“It should be noted that inspecting the readiness of special forces to repel terrorist attacks is a widespread practice in many states,” the senator stated. “There is a good reason for this, since recently terrorist acts have been carried out with the tacit support of other countries. As an example, the blowing up of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which can be attributed to acts of state terrorism. On the other hand, the situation in Syria shows that terrorism is becoming a political tool. In this case, a powerful terrorist organisation was established, fed by the countries of the so-called collective West. So, in case of unsuccessful overthrows of power by non-violent means, any means are used, including terrorism. Therefore, I consider the task set by the President of Belarus to inspect the readiness of the counter-terrorist units of the KGB to repel a possible terrorist attack through a special simulation of the situation justified and relevant.”
