Putin convinced Russian genome keeps ‘good information’
Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the Russian genotype has ‘good information’, since much has been mixed within it, TASS reports
Speaking at a meeting with participants of the 3rd Congress of Young Scientists, Vladimir Putin focused on the distinctive features of the Russian genome. “It seems to me that the reference indicators [of the country's genome] are generally clear," he said as he talked with Alina Demkina, a researcher at the Biotechnological Campus genomic laboratory.
“No, our country is unique due to different nationalities. Everyone has some features that distinguish them from the rest," she noted with confidence.
Under that pressure, Vladimir Putin said that ‘the Russian person also probably has a rather complex genome, because everything is involved in our country – which is very good’. “The information is so good there,” he added.
Alina Demkina drew attention to the fact that modern technologies make it possible to work with the ancient DNA of a woolly mammoth that lived during the Ice Age.
Discussing the work with the human genome, the researcher informed on the studies conducted on the basis of the Dima Rogachev Centre, “Dozens of genetic causes of haematological diseases not previously described in world practice have been discovered. Such results have been achieved in a year of work, and this indicates the global level of our work. These findings are unique in their genetic nature.”
“There are no others of the kind in the world! We should not be ashamed of our achievements," Vladimir Putin agreed.
