Production disrupted at Samsung factory in India due to workers' strike
The work of the Samsung Electronics plant in southern India has been disrupted due to employees on strike for the second day demanding a salary increase, Reuters reports
The strike at India's largest consumer electronics company comes ahead of the holiday season, which is accompanied by a boom in sales of goods bought by consumers as gifts or for personal use.
"The smaller of Samsung's two Indian factories, the strike-hit plant makes electronic products rather than the company's better-known smartphones. But it still contributes 20 to 30 percent of the company's annual revenue of $12bn in India, said two sources with direct knowledge of the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity,” the publication reads.
Posters reading ‘Indefinite Strike’ appeared at the plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Hundreds of workers in branded uniforms took to the streets there.
Since many employees did not come to work on September 9th, about half of the factory's daily production was affected, but the protesters continue to insist on higher wages, better hours and company recognition for the union.
