Presidium of Belarus’ Council of the Republic adopted statement in connection with escalation of Middle East conflict

The Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus expresses deep concern about the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and the threats it poses to ensuring international peace and security – as is noted in the statement adopted by the Presidium of the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament

In particular, the document reads, “We’re shocked by reports of numerous civilian casualties, especially women and children, and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.

We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and to refrain from measures and decisions that provoke a severe humanitarian catastrophe in the region.

We also urge international organisations, parliamentary structures and parliamentarians to consolidate efforts to encourage the parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and return to resolving the situation through peaceful means.”
