President's three questions make Belarusians think of the future, senator asserts

The three questions voiced by the President during his Address to the Belarusian People and National Assembly inspire everyone to think of their own personal contribution to the country’s good – as stated by Alla Smolyak, a member of the Council of the Republic and the Chairperson of the Gomel branch of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, BelTA reports

"In his Address to the Belarusian People and National Assembly, the President not only answered the topical questions of concern to society but also asked very important questions. Are Belarusians ready to pay for their own defence and the state? Are they ready to pay for sovereignty and independence? Are they ready to take an initiative and work for themselves? These three questions are united by a powerful message that makes every Belarusian to think about what they are ready to do for the good of their native country," Ms. Smolyak believes.

She emphasised that security issues are paramount. "Everyone without exception is concerned with this topic. Belarus is a country of peace-loving people who always want to live in harmony and understanding with everyone. Sadly, we observe now an unfriendly attitude from some countries that is transforming into aggression. As the President stressed, the country is able to effectively resist this aggression only if it is monolithic," Ms. Smolyak added.

The senator believes sovereignty and independence are unconditional values for Belarusians. "Our ancestors paid too high a price for them. It is the duty of modern generations to preserve these values and pass them on to descendants," she said.

“The third question is also very relevant; it is dictated by time that is now requiring more responsibility from each person for their actions. More initiative, self-development and creativity are needed now. True, the state retains all social guarantees, but people must also act, be responsible for themselves and their families, and recognise their contribution to the country’s development,” Ms. Smolyak concluded.
