Polesie State University expands ties with China
Polesie State University has become a partner of China Vocational Education Association – as informed by its PR Department Head Kristina Shestakova, BelTA reports
The association was created as part of the One Belt, One Road initiative to unite higher educational institutions of three Chinese northeastern provinces: Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. A constituent meeting – held in an online format on New Year's Eve – officially registered the Polesie State University (PSU) as a foreign partner.
"Last April, a video bridge was organised between the Brest Regional Executive Committee and the government of the Chinese province of Liaoning to focus on prospects for co-operation in the field of education, among other issues. Representatives of our university also took part. Chinese partners proposed universities from the Brest Region to join the Vocational Education Association and the PSU agreed – to ensure academic exchange and expand its international work,” Ms. Shestakova explained.
By now, the PSU has already established partnerships with Chinese universities: a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Fuzhou University, a co-operation agreement with the Qufu University, co-operation agreements with the Shenyang Pedagogical University and the Technological Institute. The Polesie State University regularly organises summer training camps for Chinese students and also internships for Belarusian students and lecturers in Chinese universities.
"A memorandum of co-operation with the Yantai University is now ready for signing. There are also plans to liaise with the Dongying Science Technology Institute and the Guangxi International College. We are convinced that our membership in the association will contribute to the expansion of international contacts, joint research activities, exchange of teaching staff and development of student mobility," Ms. Shestakova added.
