Peskov: no progress in peace process on Ukraine
The Kremlin sees no progress in the peace process around Ukraine and therefore continues the special military operation – as noted by press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, TASS reports
“There’s still nothing on any peace processes. Very difficult processes are going on with this ‘peace formula’ of [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy: some countries are discussing some ‘peace formula’ without Russia’s participation. A very strange process, but nothing else, i.e., there is nothing serious in this plan,” Peskov noted.
He also added that ‘de facto, there is still a legally enshrined refusal of Kiev to negotiate’. He explained that because of this, Moscow is continuing its special military operation.
In November 2022, Zelenskyy presented the so-called peace formula, which does not imply any steps from the part of Kiev. Instead, according to it, Ukraine must be compensated for losses caused by the special military operation at the expense of Russia’s frozen assets. While promoting its idea, Ukraine has repeatedly rejected proposals and mediation from third parties.
The possibility of Ukraine-Russia contacts has also been paralysed, since Zelenskyy signed a decree prohibiting any talks with Moscow during Vladimir Putin’s presidency. At the same time, Moscow underlines that it has never refused to negotiate with Ukraine.
