Paris authorities to ensure unprecedented level of security at 2024 Olympics
The French authorities will ensure an unprecedented high level of security at the forthcoming Summer Olympics in Paris – as stated by the Head of the Ile-de-France Regional Council, Valerie Pecresse, in her talk with the BFMTV channel, TASS reports
"An unprecedented level of security will be ensured,” the official said. Commenting on the government's decision to raise the terrorist threat level in France to the highest one, Ms. Pecresse noted that she did not know whether that measure would be in force in July. According to her, this is a prerogative of the central authorities.
As reported by The New York Times, Western officials are afraid of terrorist attacks during the Olympic Games in Paris, viewing the Islamic State sleeping cells in Europe, the conflict in the Gaza Strip and the alleged support of Palestinians by Russian-speaking citizens as the main factors of concern.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26th to August 11th, 2024. The opening ceremony is to take place on the Seine. 45 thousand police officers will be involved to ensure security.
