Opinion: USSR was a great project
As noted by on observer of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House, Andrei Mukovozchik, while commenting on the recent centenary jubilee of the USSR formation in his talk with Alfa Radio, the Soviet Union was people’s attempt to arrange a just world
“The USSR was a great project and a great country. That was really an attempt by people to arrange a just world. Of course, the concept of justice is very subtle, and everyone has their own – though there are ideas we all agree on. People from the former Soviet republics really understand many things in the same way, and justice is not an empty phrase for us. There is simply no such notion in the West, where they actually have a kind of Protestant ethic: God loves you, and everything is accordingly allowed,” the observer noted.
Mr. Mukovozchik added that the USSR was an attempt to create a just world order, and it means nothing that it was not a success. “We are trying to keep the remnants of society – who live in justice – in our country. True, we call it socially oriented, caring for people, and so on. We want our country to live fairly, and this is at the heart of this. Belarus is a spiritual heir of the USSR," he believes.
