Opinion: US turning Poland into new outpost, another point of confrontation against Belarus and Russia
Western countries assert that Belarus and Russia pose a threat to them, and such reproaches are the reason for their militarisation. By 2030, the Polish armed forces should reach 300 thousand people, and Poles will spend up to $34bn on defence in 2024. Military expert Igor Chibisov commented on this threat to the Union State and the growth of military activity in the region, sb.by reports.
“The United States has been pursuing an anti-Russian policy through Poland for a long time, it's not a secret. America is turning the country into a new outpost, another point of confrontation against the union of Belarus and Russia. These concerns are well-founded, and I think Washington is preparing Poland as a backup option after the failure of Ukraine to replace the latter. Definitely, Anglo-Saxons are great: they are warming up Polish politicians, who – in turn – are dreaming of the revival of the former power of the RzechPospolita, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. To achieve this, they ‘simply need’ to capture the lands of Western Belarus and Ukraine, or even completely seize these countries, if possible. Of course, dreaming is not harmful, but the Polish leadership has set an ambitious goal for itself: to become the top army in Europe by 2030. Definitely, this is a utopia, because there is a Russian army. However, theoretically, it can become the first army in the European part of the NATO bloc,” the expert said.
Mr. Chibisov added that Poland’s militarisation is progressing at a high speed, and loans are being taken for this purpose. “Actually, it is unclear how the country will pay them back. Moreover, except for increasing the army to 300,000 troops, Poles want to buy offensive weapons – 1,500 tanks. This fact is of a particular concern. The country has already purchased 1,000 K-2 Black Panther tanks, FA-50, F-35 (nuclear weapons carriers) aircraft and other military equipment from South Korea. These figures show that an invasion army is being prepared. By such actions, Poland is creating a military danger near the borders of Belarus and Russia. Accordingly, the Union State leaders are forced to take adequate actions to preserve peace in the region. The deployment of Russia's tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus was the right decision. This is a deterrent for Poland,” he stressed.
