Opinion: US may use some countries as ‘cannon fodder’ against Russia

The United States intends to use Poland, the Baltic States, Bulgaria and Romania as ‘cannon fodder’ against the Russian Federation – as noted by Simeon Milanov, columnist for the Pogled.info portal, RIA Novosti reports

The journalist believes that Ukraine will not be the last state that Washington will turn into a tool to fight Moscow. Among the most likely opponents of Russia, the article mentions Poland, which has a serious demographic resource (the population of 38 million people).

The Defence Minister of Poland has already announced the creation of a new division near the borders of the CSTO that will be equipped with American Abrams tanks and South Korean K-2 tanks, as well as Polish Krabs and K-9 howitzers. This suggests that America can turn Poland into a military foothold.

According to the author pf the publication, the threat to St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad from the NATO Baltic States also increases the likelihood of a proxy war between the United States and Russia in this territory.

Milanov is convinced that the risk of involving Bulgaria and Romania in a conflict with Moscow cannot be ruled out. Several US military bases are located in these countries. Three ports – Varna, Burgas and the Romanian Constanta – are an ideal springboard for the threat to the Crimea and Odessa.

“Taking into account the fact that both countries are used as a rear for Ukraine, and their strategic position poses a threat to the Russian Black Sea coast, the chance of the conflict in Ukraine expanding into our territory [Bulgaria] is not small,” the observer shared his opinion .

The Americans, as noted by the author of the material, do not intend to die in case of war in these countries – as ‘cannon fodder’ they will attract the local population. He expressed hope that Bulgarian society and the political elite are wise enough not to drag the country into a deadly confrontation for the interests of the West.

Moscow has repeatedly pointed out the absence of aggressive intentions towards other states. At the same time, as the Kremlin noted, the West is aimed at confrontation and expansion by including new territories in the NATO and destabilising the situation at the borders.
