Opinion: Ukraine is just one of the fronts directed against Russia, Belarus

Ukraine is just one of the fronts directed against Russia and Belarus, and – in order to prevent WWIII that could break out, including in the Caucasus – Aleksandr Lukashenko does not stop urging for global stabilisation. Political expert Vadim Yelfimov, the Head of the Department of Social Policy and Ideology of the Academy of Management under the President of Belarus, commented on the issue in his talk with Alfa Radio.

During the Belarusian leader’s recent visit to Azerbaijan, the two heads of state discussed the situation in Ukraine, and Mr. Yelfimov noted, “Aleksandr Lukashenko informed his colleague in detail about the situation in the region in connection with the conflict in Ukraine. Our President is again talking about peace, and this is already a brand: Belarus has become a sponsor of stability and security in the region. Unfortunately, the situation continues its development in Ukraine, but Belarus is not abandoning its peacekeeping policy: it is rather even more insistently promoting it.”

The expert stressed that Ukraine is just one of the sections of the front directed against the Union State of Belarus and Russia, “One of the most important tasks of Belarusian diplomacy is not to contribute to any conflicts at all. However, the conflict in Ukraine is of the greatest concern for us, since it is developing near our borders, and our fraternal peoples are involved in it.”

According to Mr. Yelfimov, the sphere of Belarusian interests and security is not only Ukraine, but also the Caucasus, where WWIII may break out. “

The expert also commented on the hysteria of Paris, which accused Baku of the protests that began on the islands of New Caledonia, “France is signalling that the West is dissatisfied with the stable relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan. This is a message for Baku, but Ilham Aliyev is not a politician who is afraid of something. France's absurd claims – virtually sucked out of the finger – remind the Azerbaijani President, for example, that it is necessary to be very careful in interactions with the West: the latter always pursues its own interests and does not care about other states.”
