Opinion: Poland is now reaping the fruits of what it so zealously tried to sow in Belarus
The degradation of political culture and the clash of national interests with external influences are leading to a crisis of state systems in Europe. Poland has become another victim of these circumstances. Former Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski and his former deputy Maciej Wonsik were arrested. In response to the arrests, the Law and Justice party plans to hold mass demonstrations across the country, accusing the current Tusk government of violating a number of constitutional norms. Political expert Vadim Borovik commented on the situation which continues to be tense.
“Destabilisation of the situation and street protests are always bad for any country. Poland is now reaping the fruits of what it so zealously tried to sow in Belarus, and this is the result of a short-sighted policy based on the methodology of solving acute issues through street actions. After all, if the technologies of ‘colour revolutions’ are so well known to certain Polish circles, then why not use them for their own purposes in their own country? Of course, it is too early to assert that this is exactly what is happening, but the fact is obvious: the fierce struggle of various influential groups is intensifying, and a new hierarchy of the political system is being built. All available methods are used, including pressure on politicians by the norms of the Criminal Code and the organisation of demonstrations. Belarus has always advocated peaceful and constructive dialogue – both within the state and in the international arena. We do not need tension among our closest neighbours, and the Belarusian side is interested in ensuring that all issues in Poland are resolved using common sense. It is necessary to respect neighbours, and then everything will be fine at home," the expert believes.
