Opinion: students from United States, Europe act as beacon for other social groups to follow
The conflict in the Middle East did not begin a day ago, so it cannot be said that student protests in the United States and Europe are aimed only against the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip: it is just a catalyst that has accelerated the reaction of the most protesting part of Western society to the ongoing stagnation in their countries, political expert Piotr Petrovsky believes
“Since the end of the 2000s, people in the West have begun to experience a deterioration in their standard of living, and this tendency is gradually accumulating. In turn, the elites are trying to level this situation by creating external enemies from Belarus, Russia, China, Iran and other countries. The population is being pumped up with ideological narratives about enemies and the struggle for human rights and freedoms. People are being withdrawn from specific economic issues. Students do not see honesty in what is happening, since they have become convinced that all these values are illusory. Moreover, in this situation, students have become a beacon that other social groups – such as, for example, ordinary Americans and Europeans, including pensioners – can follow. Students are actually just the beginning,” Mr. Petrovsky said.
