Expert: new Military Doctrine retains main message on Belarus’ peaceful nature
The President of Belarus has agreed to submit a draft law On the Suspension of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) to the House of Representatives. If parliamentarians pass the law, this will mean that Belarus will suspend the issuance of official notifications and information about its weapons and equipment. According to military-political analyst Aleksandr Tikhansky, the pro-active measure complies with the main goal of the country’s updated Military Doctrine: to prevent war on the territory of our state
“The situation near our borders has led to the formation of a kind of grey zone there. The fact is that Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania – which are not included in the CFE Treaty – can at their discretion increase both the number of weapons and the number of troops, including at the expense of foreign states. We are clearly observing this process nowadays. Indeed, the Baltic States assigned us the role of a mythical enemy long before 2020, but today the battalions on their territory are gradually turning into brigades, reinforced by US army units. As a result, not only is the parity of military forces in Europe violated, but there is also a direct threat to the national security of Belarus and the Union State as a whole. In this regard, the new Military Doctrine of Belarus, on the one hand, takes into account the changed situation and contains a number of innovations, and on the other, maintains continuity and the main message on Belarus’ peace-loving nature,” the expert explained.
