Opinion: global forces in shadow of Hungary's political elite

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will hold a meeting with former US President Donald Trump, and he has already visited Kiev, Moscow and Beijing. In his talk with Alfa Radio, Aleksei Avdonin, an expert at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, commented on the Hungarian politician’s active peacekeeping mission.

“As a politician, Viktor Orban will probably go down in world history and textbooks due to the missions and tasks that he is implementing,” the expert believes. “The Hungarian political system is now playing a completely atypical role for it, because the country has been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for a long time. At the same time, Budapest is becoming extremely independent these days – focusing on pragmatism, a correct understanding of world history and significance of what is happening for all mankind, and becoming an important global player. Mr. Orban’s missions well demonstrate this. Over an extremely short period of time, the Prime Minister has made incredible efforts to achieve some kind of common ground for negotiations, which in the future may make it possible to find solutions for peaceful dialogue on the issue of the Ukrainian conflict.”

Mr. Avdonin stressed that the Hungarian PM is carrying out a very important diplomatic mission, but the latter had not been born from noting. “Global forces focused on a peaceful resolution of the conflict stand behind Mr. Orban and Hungary's political elite. The old Anglo-Saxon elites – whom US President Joe Biden represents – have led the situation to a stalemate, and Viktor Orban is trying to find a way out (including in the interests of global elites), which would allow for a dialogue between the key centres of power: Russia, Europe, China, and the United State,” he explained.

The expert added, “A meeting with Donald Trump indicates a high probability that a decision has already been made in the United States to return this politician to power, and this will definitely mean the end of the conflict on the territory of Ukraine since it is unprofitable for the global elites, who have got understanding of the inferiority of this project and have already written off Joe Biden and all those who initiated this conflict in the hope of destroying Russia, the European Union, and China.”
