Opinion: China highly values Belarus as equal partner
At a recent meeting of the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyun, the Chinese diplomat said that trade and economic co-operation between the two countries is developing at an accelerated pace. In his talk with Alfa Radio, Aleksei Avdonin, an expert from the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, commented on the developing trend.
The expert noted that China is primarily extremely interested in Belarus and in investments in the republic. “Belarus is actually the end point in the Eurasian space for China within the framework of the Silk Road. Of course, given its good geopolitical position, China is focused on building very close trade, economic, technological and investment relations. In turn, we are catching the trend, focusing on attracting large companies to Belarus, creating production facilities on our territory, and necessary goods for our domestic market. We see how much demand we have now for Belarusian-Chinese cars. People are queuing up to buy such a car, and this is the result of close co-operation with China,” Mr. Avdonin noted.
As emphasised by the expert, China always focuses on the potential and economic status, the educational level of the population when choosing a country to strengthen and deepen co-operation, “We can say that China highly values us as equal partners. Belarus has a high level of training of specialists, and this is important for establishing large enterprises. We have the opportunity to attract investments and ensure investor confidence in our country and investment projects. All this is highly appreciated in the East and directly in China,” he stressed.
