Opinion: Belarus, Russia want to live independently and oppose pressure from the outside
Belarus is preparing for elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly and local councils of deputies, and Single Voting Day is scheduled for February 25th, 2024. High standards and strict legal requirements for the legality, accessibility and openness of elections are aimed at ensuring the full realisation of the electoral rights of citizens of Belarus and Russia. With this in view, political expert Vadim Borovik explained why Belarusians and Russians at this stage do not accept the ideas imposed by the West that promote shifting the legitimately elected government through colour revolutions, which are often accompanied by destabilisation and civil wars.
“We can observe the results of the Arab Spring in the Middle East: blood, death, economic decline and the collapse of a number of states. We also understand that all colour revolutions have their ‘masters’: these are third countries interested in destabilisation of a country, seizure of its economy and resources, and overall geopolitical subordination. Meanwhile, we want to live independently, we want to be responsible for our own fate, we do not want other parties to impose some rules on us and to follow them,” the expert noted. “Any nation that lives in line with someone's orders usually suffers: it is being exploited, it degrades culturally, economically, and so on. Therefore, our approach is absolutely correct: we will determine our destiny ourselves.”
Mr. Borovik stressed that the Belarusian norms of law that regulate the electoral process are among the most perfect in the world, “They take into account the interests of all citizens of our country, give them the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote and be elected. In this regard, we are an example for our partners in Europe. They can come – for example, by using our visa-free regime – and see how elections are held in a civilised, normal way, when foreign intelligence agencies and brainwashed sold-out people do not interfere in them. We will hold our elections according to the highest standards of the Union State.”
