Opinion: Belarus’ President calling for sound, reasonable position on Ukraine, negotiations and peace
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko urges the parties to the Ukrainian conflict to take a sound, reasonable position which envisages peace and negotiations – as noted by political expert Vadim Borovik in his talk with Alfa Radio
The expert called the situation related to the conflict in Ukraine very tense and serious, “The only correct solution is to get out of this situation as efficiently as possible and within a reasonable time, taking into account, among other things, the interests of Russia. It is very dangerous to prolong the conflict.”
Mr. Borovik emphasised that the Belarusian leader has always been calling for a sound, reasonable position, for negotiations and peace, “Because if these ‘millstones’ start working at full capacity, we will be grinded. God forbid they involve NATO: a world war will begin then. Aleksandr Lukashenko was right in saying that we will not crawl on our knees. Our enemies should not think that we are afraid of someone, that we are not aware of the threat coming from the western borders. This threat is not hypothetical: serious armed forces are stationed there, constant reconnaissance is underway, and relevant specialists are being sent to us.”
According to the expert, it is time for Poland and the Baltic States to finally realise that it is very dangerous to be an instrument in Washington's geopolitical game. “Look at what Ukraine has faced. True, the United States will initially pump in money, develop infrastructure, provide weapons, but will demand to use them against Russia, for example, when the time comes,” Mr. Borovik said.
The expert added that Belarus’ neighbours act unreasonably by breaking trade and economic relations with Belarus, “We always say that the rupture of trade and economic relations, which began even before the start of the special military operation, is madness. Poles and residents of the Baltic States earned and still benefit from our citizens who go to them, spend their money there, buy various goods. We enjoyed the most convenient transit of goods, we ensured 30 percent of the loading of the Klaipeda port, Belarusians were transiting cars through the Baltic countries…”
