Opinion: Belarus' Baltic neighbours are satellites of Euro-Atlantic solidarity
In their desire to cause more trouble to their nearest neighbour, the leadership of European countries, in particular Lithuania, primarily neglects their own citizens who need border crossings no less than Belarusian. Political expert Piotr Petrovsky speculated on whether the dropping of the iron curtain and making everyone feel equally bad mean real democracy for European officials.
“We are now witnessing how the world is being split into separate blocks. During this process, some of our closest neighbours, in particular the Baltic States, are, unfortunately, pursuing the most aggressive policy towards Belarus. Actually, they are not independent and sovereign countries at present, so it is impossible to view these states as agents of the policy of national interests. These are the satellites of the so-called Euro-Atlantic solidarity, and they act as instruments in the hands of the elites of the latter. The closure of borders primarily affects the Baltic States themselves. Their authorities are well aware of the consequences of such steps, but they are forced to pursue this aggressive policy towards Belarus, Russia and China to the detriment of their countries,” the expert noted.
