Oncologist on whether vape smoking causes cancer
E-cigarettes are among the modern trends in society, and most people think they are less harmful to health than usual smoking. Russian oncologist Ivan Kaprin explained whether vapes can cause cancer.
Ivan Kaprin stated that he has a very negative attitude towards electronic cigarettes, because they really can become one of the causes of cancer in the future.
“I think humanity will face a very serious problem in the future: in a few years, we may witness an increase in the number of cases of cancer of the oral mucosa and pharynx, since chemical carcinogens in the liquid that is turning into steam during heating settle on the smoker's mucosa. When propylene glycol and glycerine (part of the liquid) evaporate, substances are created that form formaldehyde, which is a top ranked carcinogen able to cause cancer,” the doctor explained.
At the same time, according to Mr. Kaprin, if a person has microtraumas in a mouth – i.e. those obtained during teeth brushing or eating – then the chemical carcinogen of electronic cigarettes affects the place of this wound, resulting in improper cell division. Accordingly, the risk of developing mucosal cancer is growing.
In addition to mouth and pharyngeal cancer, vape smoking can cause lung, stomach, and liver diseases.
