Number of tourists in Sri Lanka may reach 2.5m in 2024
For the first time in Sri Lanka's history, the number of tourists visiting the island may reach 2.5m this year, TASS reports
As informed by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Ali Sabri, up to 2.5m foreign tourists are likely to visit the country this year. “This will happen for the first time in our history. The reason for this is the increase in tourist traffic in January and February, when a significant growth of tourists was registered," Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying.
Already in January 2024, the number of tourists arriving from abroad to Sri Lanka amounted to 210 thousand compared to 100 thousand in January 2023. By mid-February of this year, the monthly flow of tourists amounted to 138,736 (107.6 thousand in the same period last year).
