Nicaragua promised to send its fighters to Venezuela in the event of counterrevolution

The Nicaraguan authorities are ready to assist Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in protecting the constitutional order by sending their fighters if an attempt of an armed counterrevolution against the re-election of the current leader of the country is organised in the Bolivarian Republic – as stated by President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega, TASS reports

Daniel Ortega announced his readiness to render assistance at the 11th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the President of Venezuela. According to him, Colombia may become the place of preparation for an armed counterrevolution in Venezuela, since it has a long border with the Bolivarian Republic and the US presence in the country.

“There are Yankee [nickname of Americans in Latin America] military bases there [in Colombia], imperialism today is more wounded than ever by this victory of [Nicolas Maduro] and does not exclude the organisation of an armed counterrevolution,” the President of Nicaragua said. He added that Nicolas Maduro needs ‘to prepare for battle’ and promised to help, “Be sure that if the situation leads to this battle, you can count on the Sandinista fighters [Sandinista National Liberation Front is the ruling party in Nicaragua].”

The Nicaraguan leader noted that Nicolas Maduro should not rule out the possibility of a civil conflict in the country, but considered that, besides Nicaragua, Venezuela would be able to receive support from other countries in the region. “I am sure that thousands of fighters from Latin America and the Caribbean will also join the defence of the Bolivarian Revolution,” Daniel Ortega stated.
