Yuri Gorlov noted that he was familiar with the work of the region from his time at the Agriculture and Food Ministry, “The region is one of the largest in the country; it’s an industrial region, accounting for over 20 percent of Belarus’ total industrial production. Now it will be necessary to quickly understand the work of all districts of the Gomel Region in terms of agriculture, industry, construction, and the social sphere: the whole range of issues aimed at improving the quality of life of our people.”

The Aide to the President – Inspector for the Gomel Region is confident that there is a lot of work ahead, and expressed confidence that he will find full co-operation with the Gomel Region personnel across all issues, “All the Head of State’s instructions must be implemented. As an inspector for the Gomel Region, I will monitor the implementation of instructions and all legal acts.”

As far as the development of the agro-industrial complex in the Gomel Region and reserves for further development are concerned, Yuri Gorlov noted that ‘the country has given the region everything to produce quality products’, “In this regard, we still need to mobilise personnel. The main work from my side and all local government and self-government bodies will be aimed at developing personnel. This work is being carried out, it cannot be said that no one has been doing it. However, it will be necessary to pay attention to personnel selection, responsibility, and – as the President points out – discipline. These factors will enable us to work better.”

Answering a clarifying question from journalists about what personnel are especially needed today, Yuri Gorlov listed the main qualities, in his opinion, “Decency, responsibility, discipline. This is enough to implement the acquired knowledge. These are simple elementary qualities: be a man and work for the benefit of your country.”
