As explained in the German Defence Ministry, the new NATO multinational naval tactical headquarters (CTF Baltic) is staffed by 160 German navy officers.

Pistorius noted that security in the Baltic Sea region is inextricably linked to the security of the whole of Europe. The new headquarters is tasked with planning joint naval drills, as well as directing NATO’s naval forces in times of peace, crisis and war.

Along with Germany, eleven countries are participating in CTF Baltic: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In peacetime, 60 military personnel from these and other partner nations can occupy 60 multinational positions. In the event of crisis and conflict, its staff can be increased to 240.
