NATO intends to increase military presence in Iraq
Javier Colomina, the Acting Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, said the alliance intends to increase its military presence in Iraq as part of a training mission against the background of the expected withdrawal of US troops from the country, TASS reports
Mr. Colomina said that NATO may increase the number of military personnel, because now there are about 600 of them. According to him, NATO will need to provide a little more presence as compensation for the fact that US forces will leave Iraq in a few months.
As informed by Mr. Colomina, the issue of increasing the number of NATO forces is being discussed with the Iraqi authorities.
