NASA to launch spacecraft to Jupiter’s moon Europa seeking for extraterrestrial life
NASA will launch a spacecraft to Jupiter’s moon Europa in October 2024 to look for evidence of conditions that could support life, TASS reports
It is reported that the Europa Clipper mission is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral (Florida) on October 10th.
The mission’s goal is ‘to determine whether there are places below the surface of Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa, that could support life’. It is noted that the device – equipped with nine instruments and equipment for conducting experiments – will be launched into the orbit of Jupiter and will approach Europa – one of the four largest moons of Jupiter discovered by Galileo Galilei back in the 17th century – several times. Its surface is covered with ice, under which there is a multi-kilometre ocean of liquid water. Today, planetary scientists consider it one of the likely centres of extraterrestrial life.
