NAS: Belarus’ sci-tech exports reached almost $56m in 2023
As noted by the Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences, Vasily Gursky, Belarus’ scientific international co-operation with other states not only results in signing new agreements and joint scientific work, but contributes to the development of exports
In 2023 alone, exports of Belarus’ scientific and technical products and developments amounted to almost $56m, and Mr. Gursky explained, “In the future, we will continue to work in the areas in which we have instructions from the Head of State, and microelectronics – as well as the development of our own software product and the IT country – are among the most important focuses right now. In this regard, I would like to mention the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, which develops applied software, including for automated screening of lung and heart diseases based on human radiographs. These developments can be scaled to the whole country.”
Speaking about international co-operation, Mr. Gursky noted that the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has been heading the International Association of Academies of Sciences (which includes 27 members) since 2017, “The NAS liaises with more than 88 countries now, implementing many joint scientific projects. Of course, the Russian Federation is our main partner, and we are currently implementing three scientific and technical programmes of the Union State. We also enjoy very close co-operation with Russia’s leading scientific organisations – such as the Academy of Sciences, the Kurchatov Institute National Research Centre, the Skolkovo Innovation Centre, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, and many others. In addition, we are actively liaising with China and the countries of the far arc.”
