Musk: Tesla may start selling Optimus robots by late 2025
Tesla's humanoid robot is still in the lab, but it may be ready for sale as early as the end of 2025 – as stated by the head of the company, Elon Musk, on April 23rd, Reuters reports
Several companies have been betting on humanoid robots to address the problem of labour shortages and perform repetitive tasks that could be dangerous or tedious in industries such as logistics, warehousing, retail, and manufacturing.
“Musk told investors on a conference call that he guessed the Tesla robot, called Optimus, would be able to perform tasks in the factory by the end of this year,” the publication reads.
Humanoid robots have been in development for several years by Japan’s Honda and Hyundai Motor’s Boston Dynamics. This year, Microsoft and Nvidia-backed start-up Figure announced a partnership with the German automaker BMW to introduce humanoid robots at the automaker's facilities in the United States.
Billionaire Elon Musk has already stated that robot sales could become a more significant part of Tesla's business than other segments, including car manufacturing.
