Deputy noted that Lukashenko had always relied only on people

A Russian journalist has recently asked Aleksandr Lukashenko what is the most difficult thing for him as President, and the Belarusian leader replied: ‘To justify people’s trust’. In the talk with Alfa Radio, Oleg Gaidukevich, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, commented on this thesis.

“The key to Aleksandr Lukashenko’s successful presidency is that he has always relied only on the people rather than the so-called elites, business oligarchs or any centres abroad,” the parliamentarian stressed. “That’s why he is greatly concerned about what people think of him. Remember, a BBC journalist during an interview with the Head of State asked him whether Aleksandr Lukashenko knows that not everyone in the West recognises him. The President sincerely and calmly replied that he did not care how he was treated in the West, and that he was primarily interested in the opinion of the Belarusian people. This is the strength of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s presidency! He acts in the interests of his people and his country. This enables him to successfully manage and get out of crisis situations. Let’s go back to 2020. If there had been a coup d’etat, then today there would have been no country, no independence, but a war. If the President had relied on money, then Aleksandr Lukashenko would have saved it, not the country. If the Head of State relied on the elites, then he would have taken power with these elites. But no. He has always been thinking about the country. The President saved Belarus for the sake of its people. He made it for the sake of those who were not on the square, who didn’t go to rallies, and did not throw stones, but who were engaged in a harvesting campaign and other important issues. He made it for the sake of those who were deceived at that time but who then came back to their senses and realised what could have been lost.”
