MP: Minsk, Beijing enjoy effective model for development of bilateral relations
The Deputy Chairman of Belarus’ House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Valery Mitskevich, met with the Deputy Chairman of the National Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference, Shen Yueyue, and the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Shandong Province, Lin Wu, during his visit to Qingdao, China
Mr. Mitskevich noted that the comprehensive development of strategic partnership with China is one of the priorities of Belarus' foreign policy. “An effective model for the development of bilateral relations has been created between Minsk and Beijing. The unity of views and common values have laid a strong foundation for the strategic partnership of our countries," he said.
The MP thanked the Chinese side for its systematic support of Belarus in the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation and, in particular, the country’s application initiated in September last year for full membership in this international structure. According to Mr. Mitskevich, a new format of relations within the SCO opens up good prospects for Belarus, which ‘intends to jointly build a powerful security pole in most of the Eurasian continent’. “Such a partnership will certainly serve to strengthen the SCO potential as well,” he added.
In turn, Shen Yueyue declared readiness to accelerate the procedures for Belarus' entry into the SCO as a full member in order to develop the Shanghai spirit, maintain stability and security in the region, and contribute to the formation of a single SCO destiny.
The dynamic development of co-operation between Belarus and Shandong Province was discussed, and the parties agreed that the format of interregional partnership had proved itself as an effective tool for consolidating common efforts to develop practical bilateral co-operation. Joint promotion of investment projects by Belarus and the Shandong Province in the field of agriculture was also in the focus of attention.
In addition, Mr. Mitskevich held a meeting with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Qingdao, Wang Lumin, during the visit. The parties recognised a high level of political trust and agreed to strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership in all areas for the benefit of the friendly peoples of Belarus and China.
