MP: Belarus will continue to do everything to ensure peace in the region

Belarus will continue to do everything to ensure peace in the region – as stated by Oleg Gaidukevich, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on International Affairs, commenting on the de-escalation of tension on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, sb.by reports

The MP stressed that the current calm and peaceful life in Belarus is a result of hard work, and it is worth a lot, “The President knows perfectly well that the task of the West is to involve Belarus into a military conflict at any cost. Ukraine is completely exhausted, there are no more people to mobilise there, and the Western countries are losing their interest in this project. Those who started this conflict would very much like to involve other countries, especially us, into it.”

By the beginning of July, the Ukrainian side had transferred much military equipment and manpower to the Belarusian border, and Mr. Gaidukevich commented, “It was clear that a provocation was being prepared. Under those circumstances, the President made the extremely correct decision: the only way to prevent war and conflict is to be as strong as possible. That is why the border was strengthened, and the most modern weapons, including the Polonaise system, were redeployed there. We made it clear that Belarus would respond harshly in case of any provocation or violation of its territorial integrity.”

However, besides that, the Belarusian side continued the dialogue. As explained by the MP, ‘so that everyone understands that Belarus never threatens anyone’. “Despite the frenzied propaganda in relation to the republic, those on the other side of the border heard us. At a meeting in the Luninets District on July 13th, the President once again said that it’s necessary to stop the war and start negotiations. He also stressed that Belarusians are not enemies of Ukrainians. We have always distinguished between the Kiev regime and the people of Ukraine. It is not a fault of the latter that they have such politicians. Belarus will continue to do everything to ensure peace in the region,” Mr. Gaidukevich stressed.

The MP added that the Head of State and the military are doing everything to ensure that Belarus is not dragged into the conflict, “These efforts are proving a success. As the President says, each person should do what they have to, and this is our contribution to the county’s peaceful sky.”
