MP: Belarus, China share similar view on world order
Over the past few years, trade and economic relations between Belarus and China have shown rapid development. The trade turnover between the two countries reached a new high in 2023 and amounted to $8 billion 400 million, which is almost three times more than in 2020. In his talk with Alfa Radio, Oleg Gaidukevich, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, commented on the topic of co-operation between the two states.
As noted by the MP, this is the result of systematic work. “We started working with China from the time when our President came to power, when no one believed in such co-operation. Everyone stated then that Lukashenko was talking nonsense, that Belarus should go to Europe to have a good future. Where is this ‘future’ in the European Union? Today, the EU shows neither growth nor prospects, it is stagnating and destroying its economy, while China is progressing. Why do Americans say that their main enemy is China? This is because China is strong and powerful, it is developing by leaps and bounds. Belarus’ President saw these prospects. That is why the republic has been building these relations for decades, since it is impossible to build anything with Chinese in a year. Our turnover is steadily growing, but it is not even about that, but about serious projects, investments and the future. Why is China treating us – a small state – in this way? This is because Belarus is sovereign. Any leader who communicates with our President knows that he is sovereign: the things will develop in the way he instructs. He has no hundred corporations behind his back – unlike Macron,” he explained.
Mr. Gaidukevich added that the President of Belarus will not be like the French leader (who can declare something, but then get scared and run away), “Do you remember Macron shouting about a war and his readiness to go to fight against Russia? Actually, he declared that and hid. It is the way he behaves: he makes a statement, promises, then runs away and hides. Moreover, he is backed by corporations. He just needs to call the White House, to consult with Biden or someone else. He is not independent. In turn, Lukashenko is independent, and China respects independent states. We share a very similar view on the world order. China, Belarus and Russia stand for justice, are against wars, and believe that there should be no pressure and interference in the internal affairs of any state.”
