Most Lithuanians loosing trust in church, banks and media, the poll shows
Public institutions and official authorities in Lithuania enjoy less and less support from the population – according to the data of a survey commissioned by the Vilmorus Market and Opinion Research Centre for the Lietuvos Rytas daily, TASS reports
44 percent of respondents expressed full confidence in the church, 36.1 percent in banks, and 24.3 percent in the media. According to the publication, a blow to the reputation of the Catholic church is caused by regular scandals related to paedophilia.
In 2021, Lithuania’s media lost public trust for the first time. At that time, 31 percent of those polled expressed a negative attitude towards information distributors against 28 percent of respondents who demonstrated confidence. According to the study, the situation has not changed for the better.
The country’s official authorities have the biggest problems with trust. The office of the Lithuanian leader is teetering on the brink of trust with 45.5 percent support, while Lithuanians rate their Seimas (Parliament) and the government negatively: the cabinet has only 17.4 percent support, and the Parliament has 11.3 percent.
It is reported that 1,008 people took part in the survey, held from September 13th-21st.
