According to the National Cancer Centre, data on morbidity and mortality in Mongolia from 2004 to 2023 showed an increase in oncological diseases. “By the end of 2023, our country became the world's leader in cancer mortality. One in five deaths in Mongolia is caused by cancer, mainly of liver and stomach. Mongolia ranks first among 180 countries in the incidence of liver cancer,” source said.

Last year, 7,244 cases of cancer were registered in Mongolia, with 65 percent of patients diagnosed at a late stage. 4,556 people died of cancer, more than 85% of them were over 45 years old. According to experts, one of the reasons for the high prevalence of liver cancer among the population is a diet dominated by the consumption of meat and fatty foods.

In 2022, the Mongolian Government introduced national medical examination programmes to detect serious diseases early.
