Moldovan opposition protests against NATO exercises in the country
The Revival opposition party of Moldova protestes against the holding of NATO exercises in the country, since they are expected to attract tens of thousands of military personnel and more than a thousand combat vehicles, RIA Novosti reports
It is informed that about 90 thousand military personnel, dozens of aircraft and helicopters, more than a thousand combat vehicles will be brought to Moldova in May as part of NATO exercises. The country's opposition wonders ‘why the ‘yellow’ regime is deliberately trampling on the Constitution, violating the status of permanent neutrality’.
The party stresses that its stands for neutrality and the preservation of peace in Moldova. The Revival members says that it is necessary to build good-neighbourly relations with all external partner and also wonders in this regard ‘how this could be possible in conditions when the military of the Western bloc is allowed into the country’.
According to the Constitution, Moldova has a neutral status. However, since 1994, the country has been liaising with NATO within the framework of an individual partnership plan.
