Commenting on the report on the results of the government's activities, Ms. Caraman said, “The level of absolute poverty has increased and amounted to 31 percent of the total population of the country, and this is the first time in the history of the Republic of Moldova that we have such a figure. Moreover, 1.3 percent of the population have 50 Lei [approximately 2.6 Euros] to spend per day.”

At the same time, the MP clarified that she made such conclusions based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics and trade union organisations. She added that, in 2023, the unemployment and emigration rates in Moldova increased.

Since 2022, large-scale protest actions by the opposition have been taking place in Moldova, putting forward demands for the resignation of the President and the holding of early parliamentary elections. Protesters accuse the government of failing to cope with the economic crisis and declining living standards.
