Minsk Mayor on concept of celebrating 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation
By May 1st, festive decorations will appear on Minsk streets to mark the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War – as stated by Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev before the meeting of the organising committee to prepare and hold the anniversary celebration, held in the Council of Ministers
“Minsk is seriously preparing for a holiday that is sacred to all Belarusians. Eighty years since our country’s liberation from the Nazi invaders is a date that obliges us all to remember the people who achieved victory over fascism at the cost of their lives. This is an example for many of our generations,” noted Vladimir Kukharev.
The Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee added that serious preparations for the celebration are already underway today, “We’ve prepared large-scale events in various areas to convey the atmosphere that reigned in Minsk eighty years ago, when the winners came to the city.”
According to Vladimir Kukharev, festive decorations will appear on the city streets by May, “All landmark sites – Victory Square, Oktyabrskaya Square, Pobediteley and Nezavisimosti Avenues – will be decorated, with the corresponding concept prepared and to be discussed at the meeting.”
