Military expert analysed why Poland and Baltic States strengthening their military forces on Belarus’ border
In his talk with SB TV, military expert Igor Chibisov explored the topic whether Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland are preparing for war and what they need from Belarus from the militarily point of view
“What kind of states are Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia? We see that politically they are completely under the US leadership. Whatever the American leadership tells them, they do. Now they have practically no economy. We see that the entire population of these countries that can work has left for the West. Therefore, they need to somehow identify themselves in this world, to pretend that they are states. As soon as any political issues arise in the EU or NATO, the Baltic States are the first to say that Russia is the common enemy. At the same time, all countries want to protect themselves from the enemy, preventing him from entering their land, e.g., like Belarus or Russia. What are our neighbours doing? They invite everyone to their territory, with German and American troops being stationed there now. We also see that a theatre of military operations is being prepared there. Why? For a NATO offensive towards Russia and Belarus,” Igor Chibisov explained.
At the same time, the expert stressed that Belarus is not preparing to attack, “We are not deploying new brigades, divisions, or other offensive equipment, unlike Western countries. If I were the leadership of the Baltic States, I would propose a simple structure. An honour guard company and regulators, a defence minister – battalion commander, an orchestra and a platoon of space communications would be enough for each republic to meet Russian or NATO troops at the borders under the orchestra with an honour guard company and regulators. A separate platoon of space communications is needed just to say: ‘We were attacked – we surrender’. This is the structure of the armed forces that these countries need.”
The expert also analysed the military situation in Poland. “Poland is the most serious issue for Belarus. The US chose Poland as an ally in order for it to weaken the Russian Federation, because Poland is located closest to Moscow. They also again played the ‘national card’: the idea of the great Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth stretching from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea. They were pumped up with this idea, and now Poland wants to become the first NATO army in Europe, doubling its number to 300,000. Most importantly, they buy offensive equipment – tanks and infantry fighting vehicles – both in the US and South Korea. They are also trying to deploy divisions on our border. This represents a certain tension for us that makes us think. As our President Aleksandr Lukashenko said: ‘If you want peace, prepare for war’, because this is a definite source of tension near our borders,” the analyst summed up.
